4 Fun Facts About Gutters That Will Surprise You (test blog from olivia)
I was at a home show and a family walked by with some very curious kids. One of the boys asked me a question, I did not know the answer to. How many people in America have gutters? It got me thinking, there must be some cool facts out there so I started my research. Wow, did I learn some interesting facts about gutters! Let's get in to some of the fun facts.
Fun Fact 1. Gutters have been around since 3,000 BC!
Can you imagine how many times the style, the material, the installation process has changed over the last 5,000 years! The original gutters were made out of stone brick and wood. Eventually that was replaced with gutters made out of wood, lead and clay. Nowadays you can get gutters in plastic, steel, copper or aluminum and they come in many different styles and colors.
Remember in the movies like Beauty and the Beast when the beast is fighting on the roof top of the castle, you can see the gargoyles around the roof lines? Those Gargoyles were actually part of a rain gutters system!
This is another form of a gutter system this thing sticking out, (little less decorative look more function) on a real castle this would have water flowing out of it to get water off this roof line.
Fun Fact 2. Gutter Cleaners find thousands of toys in rain gutter every year.
Balls and frisbees are the most common, but they have found anything from lunchboxes and toy cars to Barbie dolls.
Making sure your gutters get cleaned out a few times a year is important for many things. Standing water in the gutter can cause a nesting area for bugs, i.e. Mosquitoes! The water and wet debris can lead to issues with musty smells or even mold growing in the gutters system. Clogged gutters can also lead to water intrusion around your foundation causing larger, more expensive problems. Gutter Cleanings help with a happy healthy home.
Fun Fact 3. The technical term for rain gutters is Eave Troughs.
There are not very many words that rhyme with eave trough. While eave trough is a technical term, rain gutters is a more common name and you can rhyme lots of words with Gutter!
Clutter, Shutter, Butter, Stutter, Putter, Cutter, Etc.
Fun Fact 4. Cleaning your Gutters can Kill you!
What! I thought this was fun facts?!.... The story is, that organic debris trapped inside rain gutter is slippery and handling it boosts your risk of falling. As always, hiring a professional to maintain your gutters regularly keeps them clean and functional and keeps you from the hospital!
I think this fun fact is a bit much, however, it is a potentially dangerous task to climb up on old rickety ladders and reach past the ladder to get that debris or working on repairs. It is best practice to definitely have your Local Gutter Company take care of it for you. Why Not? They are the professionals!
